When a new EN starts at Southern Cross Care, they’re paired with an experienced Nurse who supports them and shows them the ropes.
I’ve done lots of training and personal development through SCC. They really encourage learning, including external and specialised courses like mental health and dementia. This extra training helps us improve our care to residents.
There are many different jobs at SCC – enabling anyone to change course completely, if they wish.
Flexibility to deal with life outside work is really big at SCC. Management has an open-door policy. When we need help, they always listen and look for solutions.
There used to be a time management issue. Because SCC listened to staff, the problem was solved and the result is better resident care.
I’ve been with Southern Cross for nearly 10 years, with the first 6 years being in Hostel until I moved into High Care here at Bucklands.
In my spare time I love reading, and walking on the beach. I also love my dogs – and all animals actually!”
