While others talk it, we live it.
Person-centred care tops our agenda and guides our every move every day. Regular quality meetings keep us aiming for ever higher standards and better care. In focussing on each resident as an individual, we discuss their needs and how we can improve their quality of life.
This culture of personalised, continuously improving care means you can take pride and satisfaction in work that’s truly worthwhile.
And with our focus on learning (see below) you’ll be and do your absolute best.
Respect
In all directions, respect is key. It imbues every fibre of our being.
Respect for residents and families. For management, staff, suppliers and contractors. For equipment and personal property.
Our respect manifests practically – as we support each other with efficiency, timeliness, flexibility, consistency, thoughtfulness, compassion and lightness of spirit.
When you join us, the respect shown through our kind welcome will profoundly affect you. And set the tone for how you treat us.
Caring for people means showing respect. Putting yourself in their shoes. Treating them as you wish to be treated.
At Southern Cross Care, the good you do comes back to you.
Learning
We want our people to learn, progress and grow. That’s why we pay for courses and the time to do them. Just tell us what you’d like to do and we’ll discuss it with you.
Some love to gain experience, climb levels, take responsibility and earn more – at speed and limited only by their talent and ambition. We’ll support you as far as you want to go. And once you’re there, we’ll never hassle you to do more.
For example, our traineeships provide education, work experience and a taste of life as a Carer. Many Carers train up to become Enrolled Nurses. Some do short courses. Others are happy as they are.
Training while working gives the best of both worlds. Encouragement, generous support and lack of pressure form a winning combination.
Staff who benefit from our love of learning invariably express their gratitude via long, loyal service. This makes everyone a winner!
Welcome
People describe us as kind, open, friendly, welcoming and generous.
Whatever your age or experience, whether you’re a long termer, new hire, temp or trainee, you’ll soon realise you’re much more than a number to us.
It’s wonderful to work with positive people who really care and want to give back. Friends and family who enjoy our top quality care are always referring people to us.
And many who come via Agencies end up staying for good!
Teamwork
We look out for and after each other – personally and at work. No-one lets the team down.
Everyone is positive, reliable, responsible and committed.
Unless we’re sharing it or solving it, we leave ‘life stuff’ at the door. This frees us to enjoy camaraderie and have fun.
The ‘vibe’ between residents and staff is a lot like family. Because we pull together, everyone feels a valued member of a vital team.
The calibre of our people is very high – professionally and personally. Our shared values are strong, consistent and clear, while our varied multicultural workforce is constant proof that all equal.
Flexibility
We’re very flexible with shifts and we do all we can to sync with your life. Our contracts even have a Flexibility clause that lets us negotiate shift changes with each other!
We’re adults. So we behave, and are treated, accordingly. Security, autonomy and flexibility are the rewards.
If something personal comes up, our give and take makes many things possible most of the time. The team understands this, and knows it all works out in the end. And our managers make sure it does.
Size
Our size is a plus. More sites mean we’re closer to you. The size of the organisation means better facilities and equipment. More staff means we can support you to move, try new things or gain accreditation.
Our friendly, inclusive culture means we don’t have the impersonal bureaucracy of other large organisations.
With us, bigger really is better.
Leadership
Our managers are fair and consistent and when issues arise they deal with them directly.
Approachable, compassionate and open, it’s obvious that they’re human and they care. They acknowledge good work. They lead with wisdom. They clear the path.
You’ll trust them. And want to work with them. Because they’ve earned it.
